The campaign against illegal houseboats continues in Alappuzha

 





There are currently no new houseboats  registered in Alappuzha as the government imposed a  ban  a few years ago due to the proliferation of boats in the waters. 


The Kerala Port Authority, which launched a campaign against houseboats in Alappuzha over two months ago, has so far impounded 36 boats. Ships seized include those  without compulsory license, registration, insurance, etc. They are being held in a detention yard in Aryad.


Officials with the Ports Department, however, stated they halted movement against 'different-district vessels' after a set of houseboat owners, whose crafts are registered in different locations however perform in Alappuzha, bagged a courtroom docket order that imposed a live on going after their boats. "Barring the problem of boats registered in different districts running in Alappuzha, the power that we released in March is continuing. Our intention is to carry all houseboats on board the licencing system. We are sporting out the power with out inflicting problems for tourists.
